BEFORE & AFTER

PROJECT    Before & After: Motivational Fitness App + Wearable Sensor

UX research - Interactive Design - Prototyping

Why is it so painful to commit to daily exercise? Although exercising more is one of the most popular New Year resolutions among people, few actually achieve their goals. According to the 2019 user report by Keep, a famous Chinese fitness app, there are much fewer active users compared to the enormous amount of new sign-ups. People generally feel less motivated when it comes to action, because it requires constant fighting with their laziness and committing without results.

Our project Before & After (B&A), a motivational workout app, aims to inspire regular workouts by providing customizable fitness goals and visualizing exercise results with wearable sensors

My mission is to design a fitness app that improves the user engagement based on big data and user psychology.

Rollover

People like instant rewards. Before & After adopted the gamification and related physical exercising tasks with collecting points and filling progress bars to keep users motivated with their routine training.

After check-in the app, B&A will remind users of today’s target, their total burnt calories, and they can watch their progress bar rising to its full capacity while working out.

One of the inspiring moments in people’s lives is to see how much they’ve improved from the past, and that is our second encouraging function after users’ daily “check-in.”

After a short period of workout experience, many gymers get discouraged by looking at their unchanging bodies. It's hard to see the short-term body transformation while checking the mirror everyday. However, our app can visualize all the tiny changes of the users’ body and give them a Before and After view of themselves. By comparing the “old me” and “new me”, it also helps people to receive feedback on the efficacy of their fitness program.

Usually, people only see their total body fat and muscle percentages.

One of the highlights of our product is to display the individual data of users’ body parts.

By using our product, people are not only getting closer to their ideal body, but they are also receiving rewards (such as coupons of their favorite athletic wear) after collecting enough points from their daily tasks and check-in.
